opportunity that the internship with Michael G. Spahr’s
office enabled me. I never knew that a job could be so
interesting and that I would ever want to
go to work every

Her Success Debra was
employed by T.S. Trim, a manufacturing plant, in Athens, Ohio.
In the spring of 2003, Debra was notified that the plant would
close for good in September. This news frightened her because
Debra had never been without employment. Debra’s employer
invited training providers including the Tri-County Adult
Career Center to the plant to discuss retraining options for
employees. She picked up a Paralegal brochure from our table
and thought it sounded to be an exciting and interesting
career area.
Then
doubt and fear overcome Debra. She remembers thinking, “Can I
handle going back to school? I have been out of school for so
long, can I still be a mom, a wife and keep up with the
household chores?” Debra’s husband was very supportive and
encouraged her to enroll.
Debra
maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.989 and
mastered five Microsoft User Specialist Certifications,
including a perfect score on Microsoft Excel industry
credentialing during the course of the 936 hours of training.
She
was placed as an intern with the Washington County
Prosecutor’s office in Marietta. This experience led to a job
offer and full time employment for her! Debra stated, “The
staff at the Prosecutor’s office was very helpful and eager to
help me learn new tasks. The skills I learned from Tri-County
Adult Career Center helped me understand the legal field and
my internship gave me the experience that I could use in my
new career.”
Debra
now plans to further her education at some
point.
Good
Job Debra!
